Location: Oregon Garden Resort, Silverton, Oregon
The Annual Clergy Conference will be held at the Oregon Garden Resort May 7 - 9. The topic this year is liturgy. Check-in for the conference is from 3 to 6pm on Monday. The conference concludes on Wednesday by 12pm.
In this conference participants will explore what they believe “good” liturgy is and does; how they feel about their own Sunday liturgies (strengths and areas that need strengthening) as well as what others in the Diocese are doing in their liturgy, all in order to stimulate ideas and encourage efforts to appreciate, improve, and experiment with liturgy. We will also touch on models on how to get others involved in liturgy planning as well as how to introduce liturgical change in helpful ways. In preparation for the conference, we will ask participants to complete a short survey online before the conference begins (watch for an email from the Bishop’s office on how to do this).
During the conference we will continue to find space for informal gathers, a technological summit, and conversation with the bishop and diocesan staff. A variety of worship opportunities and presentations will help to ground the conversation in practical skills.
The presenter and facilitator of the conference is The Rev Canon Melissa Skelton, Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Seattle and Canon for Congregational Development and Leadership for the Diocese of Olympia. During Mother Melissa’s tenure at St. Paul’s, the congregation has more than doubled in size. During this same time, Melissa created and launched The College for Congregational Development, a comprehensive training program for lay and clergy leaders which has to date hosted training for over 250 participants from eleven dioceses in the US and Canada.
